Donation to Food Banks
According to recent statistics, each month, about 850,000 Canadians are assisted by Food Banks, and about 36% of those are children and youth. Those who are helped include families with children, employed people whose wages are not sufficient to cover basic living essentials, individuals on social assistance, and Canadians living on fixed income, including people with disabilities and seniors. About 64% of Food Bank users pay market rent.
It is quite heartening to know that some of the Federation members organize an annual food drive. Thanks to the following member organizations that organized a food drive and provided their information:
- Mississauga Ram Mandir – An astounding 3,175 pounds donated to Sewa Food Bank and another 200 pounds to Mississauga Food Bank.
- Radha Krishna Mandir – over 200 pounds to Foodbank of Waterloo Region
If your Mandir organized (or will organize) a food drive, please provide the information to Jeydeep Patel – [email protected] for inclusion in a subsequent newsletter.
