As part of Hindu Heritage Month 2020 celebrations, the Hindu Federation organized a motorcade in The Town of Ajax to show support and appreciation for Front Line and Essential Workers at The Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering Hospital, as well as to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Diwali.

Approximately 125 cars assembled at the Harwood Plaza in Ajax to participate in this event, many of them decorated with banners, and illumnated with 'Happy Diwali" signs.

On hand were the Durham Region Fire Services, along with ambulance and police services, to guide and lead the motorcade. Many volunteers of The Ajax Rotary Club were also present to provide logistical support.

Elected officials (including the Honorable Rod Phillips, MPP for Ajax) brought greetings of support, while many multi-faith leaders delivered messages of hope to Frontline workers and patients.

In keeping with its theme - "Daanam" or "Giving" - for this year's Hindu Heritage Month celebrations, the Hindu Federation provided a monetary donation of just over $3,000 to The Ajax-Pickering Hospital Foundation to cover the costs of personal care items for patients. In addition, over 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food items were donated to The Salvation Army Food Bank by participants of the motorcade.

The motorcade was the brainchild of Mr. Cecil Ramnauth, Ambassador of the Hindu Federation.

Photos of the event can be found in the Gallery section of this website, while Thank You letters and an article that appeared in the Indo Caribbean World newspaper are enclosed.
